In front, a packed audience, last night Sheryl Sandberg, author of Lean In and Facebook COO, made a powerful case for change: in ourselves, the workplace and government. She called for improved laws to end pay discrimination. Noting that women can and are doing so much, on their own and in groups like Lean In, to fight against societal prejudice, the government must help level the playing field with stronger laws. She underscored this with the recent census numbers which confirm that the wage gap is stuck in a holding pattern, and has been for over a decade. Sandberg applauded the Equal Pay Coalition NYC’s efforts to change this. Beverly Neufeld, Director of EPCNYC, thanked her for speaking out and invited the audience of join the equal pay campaign to pass fairer pay laws in New York.  The diverse and enthusiastic audience of NYC Lean In Circle members and NYU alumni cheered this message and the wide ranging advice Sandberg offered in her intelligent, humorous and thoughtful presentation.
